Last Updated 9th September 2008Bathurst Observatory Research Facility and Bathurst Observatory Educational Facility, Bathurst NSW Australia. Please read our news page for latest information on what is happening at the observatory. We are now working with a new service provider. There may have been some delays in replying to emails as a result of the change over. Bathurst Observatory is located at two sites. One site is for research and study, while the other is for public viewing through telescopes, and also has a daytime space show in the new 200 seat theatrette. The public observatory is located at the Bathurst Goldfields site on Mt Panorama! This site has become one of the largest public educational observatories in the Central West of NSW! It boasts not only a large telescope housed in the observatory dome, but also 200 seat flat screen plantarium. In the planetarium we can simulate a fly through the galaxy and a detailed tour of the solar system. All on the big screen. Night tours are available for the observatory and day or night tours can be organised for the planetarium show. The Milky Way stretches overhead in this view taken at the Bathurst Observatory Research Facility on the 11th August 2007. About Our Educational Observatory (Tour Related Enquiries)The Bathurst Observatory Educational Facility, is

There is also the new 200 seat Space Theatre Planetarium at the new site, where day visitors can learn about the wonders of the night sky with our computer simulations of the solar system and beyond. This tour goes for over two hours and covers all key learning areas for school groups. For Bookings of the observatory or space Theatre, phone (02) 6332 2022. Our History
The observatory was built in 1999 and officially opened in July 2000. Our visitors centre was opened in January 2001 housing our mineral fossil and space display. Our radio telescope was installed early in 2002. The observatory was built privately using our own funds as an educational and tourist facility for the region. Bathurst Observatory Research Facility is a designated optical observatory, DO 3-31. In 2006 we moved the public telescope to Mt Panorama, and now undertake work at two sites, the Mt Panorama public tours site at the Bathurst Goldfields, and the Research Site. The Research site is the old public site, located away from Bathurst. The observatory is planning another major expansion, including internet accessible telescopes and research telescopes. CONTACT US
